Liverpool are considering sealing a move for Guyana’s London-born goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle this summer. According to the Mirror, the Reds are considering whether to secure the services of the non-league shot-stopper during this summer transfer period.
The 20-year-old goalie, who has an impressive height of 6ft 7in, recently featured for the Merseyside club’s Under-23 side during a pre-season friendly match last month. The Guyanan youngster is on Barnet’s ranks and earned his senior debut for the National League outfit back in 2015.
McKenzie-Lyle is likely to be competing for the Number 1 spot in the following campaign but the Reds of Merseyside are now considering whether to give him a shot. It has been suggested that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who was able to capture the signature of Alisson Becker earlier this summer, is reportedly willing to let both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius leave the club in search of more first-team opportunities which could pave the way for the London-born talent to join the revolution at Anfield.
McKenzie-Lyle does not have any track record as such after making just a single appearance in League Two during his career so far. He is relatively unknown but it will be a low-risk gamble if the Reds decided to opt for his services in the coming days before the transfer window slams shut next week.
At the tender age of 20, McKenzie-Lyle still has a lot of time to develop his game and fulfil his potential. Klopp can undoubtedly help him by providing a nurturing environment at Anfield if he ends up joining the Merseyside club in the near future. However, first-team opportunities will be hard to come by with Alisson Becker expected to be a regular in between the sticks at Anfield next season.
