Liverpool are plotting a move to secure the signature of Cagliari midfield enforcer Nicolo Barella this summer. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, as reported by the Mirror, the Reds are considering whether to make a last-ditch offer for the Italian Under-21 international during this summer transfer period.
The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has already indicated that his transfer business in this window could be done following the arrivals of Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker. However, a report in La Gazzetta Dello has revealed that the Merseyside giants are still weighing up an offer for the Cagliari talent in the final few days of this transfer window.
Barella has put in a number of eye-catching displays for the Serie A outfit during the course of the last campaign which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. His brilliant contributions helped the Italian side retain their top-flight status which goes to prove how influential he can be for Rolando Maran’s team.
However, the Reds of Merseyside are not the only ones looking to recruit the Serie A prospect and will face stiff competition from Inter Milan, AS Roma, Atletico Madrid and Lyon in pursuit of Barella’s signature.
The Italian starlet had featured in 35 matches for Cagliari last season, scoring 6 goals across all competitions. At 21, Barella still has a lot of time to improve his game and fulfil his incredible potential and Klopp can definitely help him by providing a nurturing environment at Anfield if he ends up making a switch to Merseyside in the near future. Having said that, first-team opportunities will be hard to come by with Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Fabinho and Naby Keita all fighting it out for a place in Klopp’s midfield next season.
