Chelsea are ready to shell out £30m for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman has entered the final year of his contract and has yet not signed a new contract, opening the door for Chelsea to bring the 27-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
However, reports claim that Arsenal and the player’s agent are in talks regarding a new contract, though, if they keep on delaying it, Chelsea will certainly have a say in luring him to West London. The Blues are looking for a new beginning under Maurizio Sarri as the club parted ways with Antonio Conte even though he delivered a trophy in the form of the FA Cup last season.
Sarri will be expected to bring the Pensioners back to the Champions League and for that, he will need to add reinforcements to the squad. Midfield was one of the areas of concern for the Blues in the last campaign as apart from Ngolo Kante, none of the midfielders impressed at Stamford Bridge.
A lot was expected out of Tiemoue Bakayoko but he failed to adjust to life in the Premier League in his first season. Cesc Fabregas seems past his prime and he might not have the legs to play a high-intensity game in the English top flight regularly, anymore.
Sarri has already brought in Jorginho from Napoli and the Italian will be expected to partner Kante in midfield. One place in the midfield is still up for grabs and Ramsey can make a claim for that spot if the Blues manage to land him.
The 27-year-old had an impressive season at the Emirates as he scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 32 games. The numbers are certainly impressive given the fact that he plays as a central midfielder. The Welshman is a box to box midfielder and most of his goals came from late runs into the opposition’s box which defenders often find tough to mark. He did his defensive duties diligently most of the time and will definitely be a big coup for Sarri at Chelsea.
Arsenal in no way should look to sell him, especially to their direct rivals like Chelsea. Given the experience and talent he has, Ramsey will definitely boost the Blues squad, while weakening Arsenal’s so it makes no sense for the Gunners to go through with this deal.
