Stoke City centre-forward Peter Crouch could make a sensational return to the English top-flight with Burnley looking to secure his services this summer. According to the Sun, the Clarets are plotting a move for the English frontman this summer.
Although the English striker won’t be a long-term option for Sean Dyche’s team, the veteran player can still do a job from the bench which makes it a smart move for the Lancashire side. Crouch has been a handy goal-scorer in the English top-flight and has a wealth of experience at the highest level.
However, at 37, it remains to be seen whether he can still be effective up top if given the opportunity to lace up his boots in the top tier of English football next season. The Macclesfield born forward made 34 appearances for the Potters last season, scoring six goals while grabbing two assists in all competitions.
His contributions were not enough to keep the Potters in the English first division as they suffered the agony of being relegated to the Skybet Championship. Crouch is still the type of talent who can contribute at the biggest stage if given a chance to lead the lines at the Turf Moor under the guidance of Sean Dyche next season.
The Lancashire outfit were outstanding last season when they were able to secure a strong seventh-place finish in the league but improving on that finish in this campaign will be no easy feat. Dyche needs to finalise his squad in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut next month so that his players can compete on all fronts next season.
The addition of Crouch will bolster Dyche’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Burnley have some talented frontmen in their ranks such as Chris Wood, Sam Vokes, Nahki Wells, Jonathan Walters and Ashley Barnes competing for a place up top in Dyche’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of a veteran forward like Crouch will definitely improve their team and add more competition for places within the Clarets squad.

At 37, the English big man still may have at least a year left in the tank which the Clarets could look to benefit from, in the next few seasons. He certainly adds depth Burnley might need somewhere down the line next season.
