The Hammers came from behind this time to secure a point against Middlesbrough but in reality, it was points dropped yet again at the London Stadium by the hosts. West Ham had most of the ball but never looked threatening or likely to take all three points from the game. It took a moment of magic from Payet to get them level and at the end, a draw is not a good result for Bilić who is under a lot of pressure already. Let’s take a look at how the players fared in the match out of a possible 10.
Adrian (5.5/10)
Wasn’t his best performance, seemed a bit nervous and indecisive in his actions. Another goal conceded.
Sam Byram (N/A)
Had to leave the field in the 7th minute with a hamstring injury. Big blow for Bilic.
James Collins (5.5/10)
Is looking short of confidence in his every outing. Bilić should really consider replacing him from the starting line-up
Winston Reid (6/10)
Fought hard at the back and did well under pressure but needs to do a lot better in terms of organizing his defence from the set pieces.
Angelo Ogbonna (6/10)
Was played in an unfamiliar position of left back by his manager due to injuries to Cresswell. Ogbonna did all right but his gameplay showed that he is not suitable for the left back position.
Pedro Obiang (6.5/10)
Looked tidy and worked hard in the midfield. Should be giving more such displays like this one to cement his place in the first team.
Gokhan Tore (4/10)
Was the worst player on the pitch today. Did nothing instead of losing possession and was subbed off at the half time.
Mark Noble (8/10)
Excellent performance from the Hammers captain, was hugely influential in the midfield and rattled the crossbar with a strike in the first half. Was surprisingly subbed by Bilić in the 73rd minute however as he took a gamble with another attacking substitution at the closing stages.
Cheikhou Kouyaté (5.5/10)
Disappointing in the middle with his movement. Couldn’t provide the presence needed and kept on fouling the opposition instead. Positional play was really poor.
Dmitri Payet (8.5/10)
West Ham’s best player on the pitch once again. Started off slowly but grew into the game as it progressed. Created lots of openings with his forward play and movement and scored a wonder goal dribbling past 5 opposition players which brought his team level and a point from the game. Would be disappointed with his teammates today as they failed him totally.
Michail Antonio (6.5/10)
Started in the centre forward position but was left frustrated as his teammates were not able to bring him into the game that much. The player then moved on to his familiar right wing position and was more involved in the second half but was disappointing with his decisions and his first touch also left a lot to be desired.
Subs
Álvaro Arbeloa (6.5/10)
His experience shown in his performance. Was steady at the right back after replacing the injured Byram.
Simeone Zaza (4/10)
Competed with Tore in being the worst performer of the day after coming on at half time. Looks completely out of water in the Premier League to be honest. Needs to go back to Italy very quickly.
Manuel Lanzini (6.5/10)
Provided a bit of impetus after coming on with his forward play. Played good balls into space but had ultimately had little time to do anything.
