Crystal Palace had to work really hard late last season to avoid the drop and Roy Hodgson will now be determined to make sure that they can climb up the points table in the upcoming campaign. They will need some additions to their first team to compete with the best and have particular areas in the squad that they need to upgrade on.
And one such player, that will add goals to the side, that Palace have stepped up their chase for is Liverpool outcast Danny Ings. Reports suggest that the Eagles have opened talks to land Ings in a deal that could end up costing the club close to £25m. So is he a player Palace need?
Having announced himself to the English game with a 26-goal campaign at Turf Moor, that saw Burnley gain promotion, Danny Ings initially suffered to make an impact on the Premier League and left the Clarets just a year after bringing them to the top flight. He joined Liverpool in 2015 under Brendan Rodgers but missed two of the last three seasons with two devastating injuries.
He found full fitness last season but struggled to break into the first team at Anfield, that is full of star attackers and Jurgen Klopp has placed him on the list of players that are up for sale this summer. Ings got just three league starts last season, where he registered a goal and will be desperate for some regular first team action, which he will get at Selhurst Park.
An energetic striker, who can also act as a target man, Ings is a poacher and a natural finisher. He loves to create havoc in the final third, is happy to make runs taking defenders away and making space for his side and is usually lethal when given any space and time in front of goal. At just 26, he has gathered loads of experience in the English game and can walk into the first team under Hodgson.

The Eagles used Christian Benteke as their first choice striker last season but the Belgian was drastically out of form, which saw Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha play in a striker’s role regularly. However, Ings will solve that problem and is also a decent fit for Hodgson’s system at Palace. He can find his mojo back and could be a real match winner for the Eagles and is well worth his price tag.
