Arsenal are ready to battle it out in pursuit of FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera this summer. According to The Sun, the Gunners are looking to secure the services of the Mexican international during this summer transfer period. The new Arsenal manager needs to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and a move for Herrera could turn out to be a shrewd signing for the North London club if they can pull off such a deal in this off-season.
Herrera has shown glimpses of his brilliance while playing for Porto over the last few years. The 28-year-old knows what it takes to win and is vastly experienced at the top level while featuring for the Portuguese giants.
Since his arrival at the Estádio do Dragão in the summer of 2013, the Mexican ace has made 131 appearances in the Portuguese top-flight, scoring 20 goals while grabbing 20 assists in his career so far. He has a knack for scoring and creating important goals which could prove to be an ideal asset for the Gunners if they manage to snap him up in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut next month.
Herrera is exactly the kind of prospect who can flourish under the guidance of Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium if given the honour to wear the Arsenal jersey on a regular basis in the upcoming campaign.
The London heavyweights had a forgetful season last term when they were unable to qualify for the Champions League after only managing to finish in the 6th spot of the league table. Emery is now hoping to finalise his squad in the final few days of this transfer window so that they are well-equipped to compete on all fronts next term.
The potential acquisition of Herrera will definitely bolster Emery’s midfield options ahead of the new season. Arsenal have a lot of promising midfield stars in their squad such as Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Mattéo Guendouzi and Mohamed Elneny vying for a place in Emery’s starting XI. The addition of Herrera will add more competition for places within the Gunners squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.

At 28, the Mexican sensation still has a few years left in him to play at the top level which the North London outfit could look to utilise in the next few seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Herrera and whether he ends up plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
