Arsenal are in the race to sign Monaco’s wonder kid Nabil Alioui. The 19-year-old winger is considered as one of French football’s hottest properties and the chasing clubs are quite interested in him as the player is currently on a youth contract, which implies that clubs vying for him, can get a bargain deal for the French youngster. The player is currently part of the France U19 European Championships squad where he has helped his nation to reach the semi-finals where they will take on Italy.
Along with the Gunners, Manchester City are also interested in the player and they seem to have an edge over others as the player has the same agent as Kevin De Bruyne. However, the French outfit Monaco are also keen to hold on to him and they are expected to give him a full contract once he returns from the u-19 European Championships.
Arsenal currently lacks in the ”winger’s” department as one can only term Alex Iwobi as an out and out winger in the squad. Though the Gunners faithful would want to see a more established and proven player being signed in the market, however, given the talent Alioui has, it can turn out to be a smart decision in the long run.
The London based club is often known to pick up young potential prospects and over the years we have seen quite a few of them go on to become superstars. They will be hoping for the same if they manage to land the 19-year-old winger. His performance in the UEFA Youth League was fantastic in the last campaign as he managed 5 goals in 5 games.
It will be tough for the Gunners to lure the Frenchman as Monaco themselves rate him highly and are set to offer him a contract. The reports suggest that the French side has even decided a loan club for the youngster after he signs a new contract. The club they are looking to send him to Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge.
Maybe Unai Emery should go after much-proven players because as mentioned, the club lacks any firepower in the wide areas. Signing an established and proven winger will be the right way to go as Alioui still needs some years before he can become a finished product. It seems like Arsene Wenger has never left the club as, under him, the Gunners were often linked with young and unknown French players.
