After only narrowly missing out on European football last season, Leicester City are a club that will want to take a step further this season. Claude Puel had done well with the squad last season and should be desperate to add some quality to the first team, to try and compete with the best next season.
This has seen them linked with some of the finest stars in Europe and one name they continue to be linked with is Juventus star Stefano Sturaro.
Born and brought up in Sanremo, Sturaro started his senior career with Genoa and spent just two years at the club, before being snapped by the Old Lady in 2014. The 25-year old has spent four long years in Turin but is yet to cement his place in the first team and only remains an outsider for Massimiliano Allegri, who handed him just 11 league starts last season.
He is a utility player, who can play as a full-back or even as a winger but Sturaro is naturally a central midfielder, who has failed to hit heights that he has promised in the past. He is strong in hold up play and technically gifted and is a player who can create chances or help add numbers to the backline. He is confident with the ball at his feet and is also quick to make interceptions, adding balance to the side.
Sturaro loves to act as the link between the defence and the attack for his side and is disciplined with his passing, rarely wasting possession. He does not have too much skill and is also not one to take on defenders in a foot race but he is a dynamic player, most managers would love in their side.
He has been linked with an exit in each of the last two summers but has stayed in Italy, covering for contingencies at the Allianz Stadium. However, with Juventus spending big on Ronaldo this summer, they will need to sell a few of their stars to raise some funds and Sturaro might finally be sold.
The 25-year old has been linked with a move to the King Power from the start of the summer but West Ham have also joined the race for his signature. It is understood that he is valued at £20m and his agent has now claimed that Leicester City have made an approach for Sturaro recently.
With Wilfried Ndidi doing well in a defensive midfield role, Sturaro can add a different dimension to the side and will be a huge asset for the Foxes. He has experience at the highest stage, fits into Puel’s system well and at his price, is a decent acquisition for Leicester City.
