Rangers have been linked with a move for Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke this summer but the move has failed to materialise so far. The Gers have already secured the services of two Liverpool players in Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria on loan deals and their new boss Steven Gerrard is also reportedly eager to seal a move for Solanke before the transfer window slams shut next month.
However, it is now being suggested that the Reds could retain the services of the English striker with Jurgen Klopp looking to part ways with both Danny Ings and Divock Origi this summer. This could mean that the 20-year-old striker might be part of Klopp’s plans for the new season which indicates that Gerrard will have to look elsewhere in search of a new frontman who can lead the lines at the Ibrox Stadium next term.
Solanke was a sporadic presence for the Merseyside club last season with most of his appearances coming from the bench. However, there is no doubt about his massive potential and he is destined for big things at Anfield if he can break into the Reds first-team in the upcoming campaign.
With Rangers set to miss out on the Liverpool centre-forward, let’s take a look at three alternatives for Gerrard to consider in this post-season.
Patrik Schick
The AS Roma striker has a promising future in European football and has made 54 appearances in the Italian top tier, scoring 13 goals while grabbing 5 assists so far in his career. The Czech Republic international put in a majestic display in Roma’s Coppa Italia clash versus Torino last season when he managed to find the back of the net. At 22, he will definitely flourish with regular first-team opportunities which the Teddy Bears can provide him at the Ibrox Stadium next season.
Óscar Estupiñán
The 21-year-old prospect had put in some awe-inspiring displays for Vitória Guimarães SC during the course of the last campaign. The Colombian wonderkid had registered 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 33 matches for the Portuguese club last season. Gerrard can definitely bolster his attacking options by tabling an offer for the South American starlet in the near future. Unlike Solanke, he can operate in multiple positions across the frontline which makes him a perfect fit for the Gers.

Ross McCormack
If the Light Blues are looking to recruit someone who is more experienced in the attacking third, they can definitely consider making a bid for the services of this 31-year-old Scottish veteran. The Championship forward has recently had a productive loan spell at A-League’s Melbourne City and came back to Aston Villa in January. McCormack has put in some fantastic performances for the Australian club last year and had registered 14 goals in 19 matches during the previous edition of the A-League. The Villa outcast is also vastly experienced in English and Scottish football which makes him a perfect candidate to take up the goal-scoring duties at the Ibrox next term.
