The saga regarding John McGinn’s sale to Celtic has dragged on for quite a while now and that will be a cause of concern for the Celtic faithful. Brendan Rodgers has seen three of his bids being rejected by Hibernian FC as they are not yet willing to meet £4m valuation of the player.
Kris Commons, former Celtic midfielder, recently came out and said that the Hoops shouldn’t waste any time in signing him. Commons had earlier played with McGinn when he was on loan with Hibs. He said,”I’m always a believer that, if you want a player, go and get him. Just pay what’s expected. There have been rumours of £1.4m, £1.7m, now £2m. Celtic are clearly aware of what the asking price is. But they are trying to drag it out. The only concern for Celtic is if another team from down south comes in with an improved bid. With all the hype surrounding John McGinn and the fact he’s now a Scotland international, £2.5m is a snip for any team.”
Rodgers has lost the services of Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts earlier in the transfer market. That is going to leave a hole in midfield for the manager and he did go on to give an indication that they will need to bring in replacements in the summer transfer window.
McGinn has already established himself in the Scottish national team and is said to be a boyhood Hoops fan. He will definitely jump if presented with an opportunity to play for the league holders. The 23-year-old has all the components to his game to be a success at Celtic Park.
He had made 43 appearances in all competitions last season and managed a tally of 6 goals and 8 assists. More than the goals and assists, he is in the team to control the tempo of the game and keep things ticking in the middle of the park. He is hardworking and tenacious as he helps his team out defensively as well. The Scotsman is just 23 years old and has already shown that he has a matured head above his shoulders.

Brendan Rodgers is aware of what Hibs are demanding for the player and he shouldn’t waste further time in paying the quoted amount. Given the current market situation, paying £4m odd for an established 23-year-old should be a no-brainer as he can easily serve the club for quite a few years.
