Wolverhampton Wanderers were head and shoulders above everyone in the Championship but they will be aware that Premier League won’t be a cakewalk for them. They have made some impressive signings in the transfer market and are not looking like stopping as they are close to securing a loan move for Jonny Castro. The left-back plied his trade for Celta Vigo last season and is set to join Atletico Madrid on a permanent basis on a six-year deal.
The deal is said to be worth £6.2m and the Spanish giants are looking to send him on loan straightaway. The West Midlands outfit have been smart in their transfer business regarding loan moves as they snapped up quite a few players on loan last season who played a crucial role in their Premier League qualification.
Breaking into Atletico Madrid’s first team will be tough for the newcomer and that might be one of the reasons why Diego Simeone has no qualms about sending him on loan. Barry Douglas was the preferred option for Nuno Espirito Santo last season and Castro will definitely add more competition for places.
The 24-year-old is the product of Celta Vigo’s academy and for the first time in his career, he is set to play outside of Spain. He was regular for his side in the past few seasons and made 36 appearances in the La Liga. The Premier League will definitely be a tough challenge for the Spanish fullback but he seems to have the game to flourish in the toughest of situations and that is one of the reasons why a club of Atletico Madrid’s stature are signing him on a permanent basis.
Castro will definitely bring competition for places and to play in the English top flight with Wolves will definitely help his overall development. The Spaniard is a tough tackling fullback and it will be interesting to see how he will adapt to the challenges of the Premier League.

Santo usually deploys three men at the back and the fullbacks are used more in a wing back role who are expected to provide a more attacking outlet. That could be a cause of worry for the manager as Castro is defensively more adept. Maybe his new manager will be able to bring the best out of him but it can be a decent acquisition for Wolves as Castro will be expected to play a role of a squad player.
