Erik Lamela’s story at Tottenham Hotspur continues into its next chapter as the Argentine winger had been offered a new contract, which he has accepted. Lamela had joined the English outfit in 2013 in a deal worth £30million and has gone on to represent Spurs in the league with 107 appearances and providing 10 goals in their continuous attempt at landing the grandest prize offered in English football.
Mirror reports that the contract extension spans for a period of four years taking the possibility of keeping the player through his prime. The deal shows the faith entrusted to him by Tottenham Hotspur.
Lamela took the opportunity to make his feelings clear about signing the contract extension with the North London based club. His Message to the fans was, “I am very happy to extend my contract with this club. I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready to play for this team. I love this club so much. I am very happy here. With my team-mates, we have a very good relationship and I’m happy to stay here for four more years. We’re preparing now in pre-season to be ready for the first game and that is the most important thing.”
He suffered a long-term injury scare which saw him being sidelined for 13 months due to his inability to assess and fix an uninterrupted hip problem. Lamela has repaid Tottenham with his significant improvement in fitness and at his personal game, as he slowly made his way back into contention for a place in the starting 11. The team will unquestionably benefit from this contract extension.
Tottenham will look at this renewal of contract as a sign of good fortune since Lamela has so much more to offer to Spurs. On his day, he can be a handful to cope with and torments rival defenders with his pace and trickery. He has significant Premier League experience and will only add more fuel to Spurs’ chances of lifting silverware in the upcoming season and for the following years to come.
He went on to admit, “I keep going, I keep doing my best for this shirt. I think this is going to be a very good year for us. It’s difficult to be injured, especially for a long time, but I never give up. I always worked on it and everything is in the past now. I am just looking forward. Being strong mentally I think helped me a lot. Now I am ready to play and enjoy it.”
