Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson was being linked with a move away from the club. West Bromwich Albion were reportedly interested in his services this summer. However, his latest comments will surely put all those rumours to bed as he clearly indicated that he is happy with his life at Elland Road.
Jansson was quoted to have said,” “I want to experience many things in my career. I have always said that the dream is to play in the Premier League with Leeds. That’s all I have in my head right now. I’ve been there for two years and have seen just about everything both positive and negative.”
The 27-year-old also seemed happy with United’s new appointment for the head coach role. He believes that playing under the veteran Marcelo Bielsa can help his game develop further. He heaped praises on him and added,” Just for that reason, it feels even better to be in Leeds. I think he [Bielsa] will benefit my personal development. As a team, Leeds needs a hard coach, I myself have had coaches of that kind in Italy. It’s a completely different mentality that I really like.”
Such remarks will bring the Whites faithful a sense of relief as Jansson is really an important member of their squad and given the issues that the club is facing in acquiring players, the Swedish international will be the main man, at the heart of the defence in the upcoming season.
The Swede made 43 appearances in all competitions last season and with better help from his other team-mates, the Peacocks could have finished a bit higher. Bielsa will have to solve a lot of issues if he wants his side to challenge for a playoff spot.
Jansson was part of the Sweden squad which punched above their weight and reached the quarterfinals in the 2018 World Cup. He came off the bench in most of the games and did a decent job, more often than not. Leeds United should see Jansson as a leader at the back and to retain the 27-year-old’s services will be a huge boost going into the new campaign.

The player dreams of playing in the top flight with the West Yorkshire outfit, however, for that to happen, Bielsa will need to make some signings in the transfer market as his current squad is not good enough to qualify for the Premier League. One thing is for certain, Leeds have got a big boost that their defensive ace has come forward and has cleared all the rumours regarding his future.
