According to latest reports, Rangers have signed Liverpool‘s winger Ryan Kent on a season-long loan deal. He is apparently undergoing a medical today at Rangers. The England u-20 international had spent last season on loan with Bundesliga outfit Freiburg and later with Bristol City. Kent is the product of Liverpool academy and has been with the club since 2003. However, he is yet to break into the senior team, his only appearance coming in an FA Cup game in the 2015-16 season.
This has been a productive summer for Rangers as Steven Gerrard looks to stop Celtic‘s domination in the Scottish Premiership. The Gers have seen their rivals win the league seven times in a row now and they have handed the club’s baton to a relatively inexperienced manager in Steven Gerrard to bring back their glory days.
Though inexperienced, Gerrard has been instrumental in luring players to the Ibrox, especially from Liverpool. Teddy Bears have already signed Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria on a season-long loan deal.
Kent happens to be the second player from Liverpool to make his way to Glasgow. He made 18 appearances for two teams last season and will be looking to get more regular game time in the upcoming season. Kent had signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in 2017.
Kent is traditionally a left winger but can play in various positions in the final third of the pitch. With the amount of talent the Reds have currently in their squad in the attacking third, breaking into the first team would have been next to impossible for the 21-year-old winger.
The English winger has good pace and decent dribbling skills but he needs to bring more maturity to his game in the final third. He often makes the wrong decision and to improve on that, he needs to play regularly and it will be interesting to see whether he will get that much-needed game time at the Ibrox.

Kent has represented England at the u-18 and u-20 levels and now is the time for him to kickstart his career. Moving away from Liverpool will certainly help in his overall development. Steven Gerrard should be aware of what Kent is able to offer as he would have witnessed him from close quarters during the time when he was coaching at the Liverpool academy. Playing under a mentor like Gerrard will certainly be a huge learning curve for the youngster.
