Petr Cech, who was shown the door from Chelsea a few years ago, was being linked with a move back to his former club in the recent times. However, his agent has ended all those rumours and has said that the Blues haven’t made any enquiry about his 36-year-old client. Chelsea are soon going to be in need of a goalkeeper as Thibaut Courtois is set to part ways with them.
Unai Emery made a massive statement by signing Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for £20m and a lot of pundits expect that the German will start in goal for Arsenal come the next season. This could mean Petr Cech has to be satisfied with no.2 duties and will only get a run of games in Cup competitions.
Emery recently explained the goalkeeping situation and said,” I want to work with Petr Cech, with Bernd Leno, with Emiliano Martinez, with Matt Macey, with Ospina. It’s clear that we have a lot of goalkeepers but we want to work in the future with three goalkeepers in the first team. Now, I want to look, I want to work every day with all the goalkeepers and then I am going to decide.”
Cech had parted ways with Chelsea as he had to compete with Thibaut Courtois for the no. 1 spot and the same thing can happen in the upcoming season with Arsenal now. To please the press, the manager has said that he wants to work with everybody but come the new season, he will have to decide who his no.1 goalkeeper will be.
Cech did let the team down last season and his performances have surely gone down a notch in the past year. Leno is one of the best goalkeepers to come from Bundesliga and everyone expects him to take the no. 1 mantle from the veteran Czech Republican.
It is difficult to digest that Emery will spend £20m for a goalkeeper to sit on the bench, so, Cech will have a decision to make whether he will stick with the Gunners or look for greener pastures elsewhere. David Ospina is also a decent bet for a no. 2 role so the Spanish tactician might not have any qualms about letting Cech go. However, many feel that David Ospina will be the one who would be offloaded.

The Blues have been linked with other goalkeepers as well and going for a declining Cech won’t be a step in the right direction. The Gunners will definitely love to have him as the no.2, given the world of experience he has at the top level.
