Barcelona have dismissed speculation linking them with a move for CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin this summer. According to recent reports, the Russian international is not on Barca’s radar amidst rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the player favours a move to Stamford Bridge which is why the Catalans have dropped their interest in him.
One of their major concerns against such a move was the fact that Golovin only speaks Russian so it would have been difficult for the 22-year-old to adapt to Spanish football. With Barca out of the race, it could be a big boost for the Blues, who are hoping to secure his services this summer. Some sources are now claiming that his arrival at Stamford Bridge is now imminent with Maurizio Sarri looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
Golovin was one of the stars of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as his brilliant contributions helped the Russian national team reach the quarterfinals of the competition. However, they were knocked out by Croatia via a heart-breaking penalty shootout after both teams finished with a 2-2 scoreline after extra-time.
The Russian international is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the leadership of Sarri if given the opportunity to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge next season. The 22-year-old had featured in 43 matches for CSKA Moscow last season, scoring 7 goals while creating 6 assists in all competitions. He has also racked up 23 international caps for his country and has three goals to his name so far.
The West Londoners had only managed to conjure up a 5th spot finish in the English top-flight last season which will see them not take part in the UEFA Champions League next term. With the appointment of Sarri, the Blues are hoping to turn their fortunes for the better in the upcoming campaign as they look to establish themselves in the top 4 once again under the Italian manager.
The addition of Golovin will definitely bolster Sarri’s midfield options at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have some talented midfielders in their squad such as N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho, Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley, Tiémoué Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater who are all vying for a place in Sarri’s midfield. The potential acquisition of Golovin will undoubtedly improve their side significantly and add more competition for places with the Blues squad.

At 22, the Russian prospect still has his best years ahead of him which the West London outfit could look to utilise, in the next few campaigns. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Golovin and whether he ends up making a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.
