Chelsea are reportedly making provisions for the possible departure of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid. The Blues head coach, Maurizio Sarri has recognized Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel as an immediate replacement along with Arsenal‘s Petr Cech. Latest reports claim that reigning European champions have already tabled a £48.5m offer for Courtois as Chelsea looks to scavenge the most value out of the last year of the Belgian’s contract.
The West London outfit has recently bid adieu to Antonio Conte and appointed Sarri in his place. They have also made one signing in Jorginho this summer as per the request of the new manager. Courtois is their champion shot-stopper and will be hugely missed, should he depart for the Spanish capital in the coming weeks.
While finding a replacement of his stature will be extremely difficult, it would not be the worst idea to consider a proven veteran in the Premier League stage. Schmeichel have impressed aplenty with his exploits for Denmark in the 2018 FIFA World Cup just like Courtois has for Belgium.
Otherwise, the 31-year-old has also won the Premier League with the Foxes back in 2016 and racked up close to 300 appearances for the side over the past 7 years. He signed his first professional contract with Manchester City and featured in 10 senior team games for the club. He developed himself early on while out on loan spells with Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Coventry City and Cardiff City.
Later he switched to Notts County and then to Leeds United before arriving at the King Power Stadium in the summer of 2011. Schmeichel has 39 caps for Denmark and 26 caps for the U19, U20 and U21 sides.
The Dane is known in the Premier League circle to be a highly determined and resolute figure in between the sticks. He commands the Leicester backline not just with great reactionary saves but also with his leadership abilities.
We all get to see the similar type of passion in him as his father and Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel. While his position in the Leicester ranks might be secure for the immediate future, he certainly deserves a call-up from one of the elite teams in the country.

His contract is set to run for another three seasons which will allow Foxes to demand a sizeable fee and reinvest it in able replacements. Chelsea should be quick to make an official offer, following the exit of their current number one.
