The 2017/18 Championship campaign was not a memorable one for the Whites as they failed to get anywhere close to the playoffs for promotion. Leeds United seemed to have turned into a struggling club but they pulled out a masterstroke this summer, in landing Marcelo Bielsa as the manager of the club for the next season.
The Argentine is one of the best coaches around and is sure to make an impact on the English league but he needs to make a few additions to his squad, to help him compete with the best in the competition. However, one such player he has been extensively linked with but is struggling to land is Matej Vydra.
Having moved to England with Watford for the first time in 2012, the Czech international only made a name for himself after he joined Derby County in 2016. He scored five goals in his first season with the Rams but last season, he turned into a goal scoring beast, registering 21 goals, standing as the top goalscorer in the Championship.
A natural finisher, who is strong in hold up play, Vydra is perfect for the English game. He is decent over a dead ball and can help in build-up play but he is at his best when attacking crosses and running the backline ragged. He likes to test keepers from long range, can win free kicks in dangerous areas and is more or less the complete package.
He has already spent three campaigns in the Premier League, has 20 international appearances to his name and at 26, is an established and experienced star at the highest level. He showed last season that he is ready for a step up in challenge but hardly any top flight team have shown real interest in him.
However, it is Bielsa who believes that Vydra will be an asset for his side. The Whites struggled in front of goal last season and Vydra is expected to walk into the first team next season. It is understood that Leeds are ready to meet his valuation of £11m but the player’s future is yet to be resolved.

While it looked like Vydra will join Leeds, reports now suggest that the player is holding out on a move to a top-flight club. The Rams are forced to sell due to Financial Fair Play rules so Vydra needs to take a decision quickly but if no concrete offer arrives from the Premier League, Leeds may finally seal this deal. But do you think they should offer the attacker extra incentives to smoothen this deal?
