West Brom are among a host of English sides seeking out a transfer of Daniel Amartey from Leicester City. The 23-year-old has not been able to win the affections of the fans or the Foxes manager, Claude Puel, leading him to make just 8 Premier League appearances last term. The following season is not expected to bring around any changes either with Puel staying on as the Leicester head coach and Adrien Silva making his way over to the King Power Stadium last January.
The French boss has a variety of options in midfield with the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Vicente Iborra, Adrien Silva, Andy King, Matty James, Hamza Choudhury and Papy Mendy already present in the club ranks. Amartey could be offered a more prominent role with the recently relegated West Bromwich Albion than at Leicester.
He was brought in from FC Copenhagen back in 2016 to potentially be an N’Golo Kante replacement. At the time, he was touted to be one of the best midfielders in the Danish Super Liga and even cost the Foxes £5m. The 23-year-old got to make 24 Premier League appearances in his debut season but has hardly been considered for selection this past term. Wilfred Ndidi has managed to carve out a starting spot over Amartey in the defensive midfield position.
Puel instead chose to field the Ghanaian in the right-back position while Danny Simpson recovered from an injury last season. Not only did the 23-year-old look uncomfortable in the position, he even made a few errors which eventually cost his side.
Despite his shortcomings at Leicester, it would be foolish to completely discount the midfielder’s obvious talents. He has a brilliant sense of defensive accountability around the centre of the pitch. Standing at 6 feet tall, he also has the physical attributes to succeed in the English game.
Already awarded with 22 caps for Ghana, a change of pace might do wonders to his club career and the Hawthorns seem like the perfect escape. The Baggies are looking to make reinforcements following their relegation from the Premier League. Darren Moore needs to consider more quality options to fully address the inadequacies of some of the club’s players from last season.

With Claudio Yacob released from the club’s wage books and Gareth Barry due to turn 37 this year, the midfield could use a few extra heads to overcome the challenges of the EFL Championship. Amartey still has the years to fulfil his early potential and a move to the Hawthorns could potentially be the turn around he must be looking for.
