Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale had been linked with a move away from the club as he wasn’t getting much game time in the first eleven under Zinedine Zidane. However, after the departure of the French manager and now Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale is more likely to stay at the club and might act as a new successor to Ronaldo.
The Welshman has never been able to establish himself as a regular at Santiago Bernabeu but has played a crucial part for them in almost all of their triumphs over the years. Last season, he came off the bench in the final to score an absolute world-class goal against Liverpool in the Champions League which sucked the stuffing out of the Reds. Ever since his move, he might not have been the main man for the Galacticos but has shone every now and then.
Gareth Bale was being linked with a move to Manchester United and it was believed that the Red Devils didn’t go for Ronaldo as they wanted to pursue Bale in the transfer market. However, United can end up with neither as Julien Loptegui is set to meet with the Welshman soon and will convince him to stay at Madrid.
Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus has come as a blessing in disguise for Bale as the 29-year-old can finally take the centre stage at the club. Real Madrid also cannot let two of their star players leave in the same transfer window so holding on to the likes of Bale, Asensio and Isco will be really important for Lopetegui as he begins a new chapter at Real Madrid without their talismanic scorer Ronaldo.
The Galacticos have had a great run in the Champions League over the past few years and the same will be expected even in the upcoming season. They might have lost the La Liga to their arch-rivals Barcelona by a significant margin but winning the European competition three times in a row has certainly pulled back some pride by the end of their last season.
