Leeds United have reached an agreement with Chelsea over the loan move for their English goalie Jamal Blackman this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks have agreed on a deal to recruit the Blues shop-stopper during this summer transfer period.
It is understood that the Peacocks were on the lookout for a new keeper and Blackman fits the bill perfectly. Some sources have recently claimed that the 24-year-old prospect was scheduled to have his medical on Saturday morning. However, the West Yorkshire outfit has still not officially announced the signing of the player.
It seems like Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has turned his attention to the Blues talent after missing out on Angus Gunn, who completed his move to Southampton for £10m on a five-year contract. The West Yorkshire side are now inching closer towards sealing a season-long loan move for the English sensation which could benefit everyone involved.
Blackman graduated from the Chelsea academy and had put in a number of awe-inspiring displays during his loan spell at Sheffield United last season. His brilliant contributions have caught the attention of the Leeds chiefs who have wasted no time and are on the verge of securing his services.
Blackman had made 33 appearances for the Blades last season, conceding 35 goals while notching up with 10 clean sheets across all competitions. He is exactly the kind of player who can compete with Bailey Peacock-Farrell for a starting berth between the sticks in Bielsa’s senior squad.
The addition of Blackman will definitely bolster Leeds’ goalkeeping options at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa has only got one recognised keeper in Bailey Peacock-Farrell in his ranks so the Argentine manager needed to act quickly to fill in the hole left by the departure of Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald. The potential acquisition of Blackman will undoubtedly improve Bielsa’s side significantly and add more competition for places within the Peacocks squad.

At 24, the London-born goalie still has his prime years ahead of him which the Yorkshire giants could look to utilize in the upcoming season. The Chelsea youth product might not be ready for top-flight football yet but he has proved his value in the Championship last season which is why it could turn out to be a shrewd move for Leeds. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Blackman and whether his time at Elland Road turns out to be productive.
