Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic may have raised their level in the Premiership but they remain minnows in Europe in recent years. The Glasgow giants are now looking to add some quality to their first team, to try and compete with the best next season and this has seen them linked with a host of stars from around Europe.
One such player they are interested in who is now up for grabs is Harry Wilson.
The Welsh international joined Liverpool’s academy as an eight-year-old but only made his debut for the first team under Jurgen Klopp in the season before the last. He has been prolific in the youth system for the Reds and was expected to make an impact on the first team last season but Jurgen Klopp could not integrate him into the starting eleven and had to send him out on loan to Hull City for the second half of the campaign.
Wilson showed great maturity in the Championship, registering seven goals and three assists in 11 league starts. His progress was expected to give him a shot in the first team at Anfield next season the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri recently will push him further down the pecking order.
But Klopp sees him as a star for the future and had him pen down a new five-year deal to tie him down at the club for a long term. However, the German still does not see the 21-year old as a first-team option next season.
He was overlooked for Liverpool’s recent friendly against Bury and Klopp went on to reveal that he did not want to take any risks playing Wilson before he can move out on loan. The manager has figuratively put him up for sale and Celtic are one of the many clubs that are interested in taking him on loan.
The Celts offer Champions League football while Wilson was at Liverpool’s academy when Rodgers was in charge at Anfield. So this move makes sense for all parties. Wilson is a pacey winger, who has a keen eye for a goal and is certainly going to add width and creativity in attack. He may not have too much top-flight experience but has the potential to be a match winner for Celtic.

He is not ready to walk into the starting XI at Celtic Park but can be a serious threat coming off the bench. At just 21, he will gain a lot of experience in Glasgow and a move to Celtic may be the right step forward for Wilson this summer.
