Rangers have still not heard back from Millwall after putting forth a £3m bid for centre-back, Jake Cooper. Steven Gerrard, who has made 9 signings already as the Gers manager is looking for a player in the left-back position and has chosen the 23-year-old to be his leading man. However, Neil Taylor has also sent out a warning to potential suitors that none of his players are for sale in the summer window.
The Lions are probably contemplating their own statements since £3m is quite a hefty amount to turn down. Cooper, who has 5 caps for England’s U18, U19 and U20 sides is a first-team regular under Taylor, featuring in 46 of the club’s games last term.
He is a versatile presence in defence and has mostly been utilised at the heart of the Millwall defence. He contributed with 4 goals and 2 assists to help the East London outfit make a run for promotion this past season.
Cooper embarked on his professional career with Reading FC and signed his first professional contract with the club in June 2013. He made his Championship debut in a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town in August 2014 and later went on to make 54 appearances for the Royals senior team.
He was initially loaned out to Millwall for a brief spell in the 2017/18 season and after impressing on his arrival to the Den, the Englishman was brought out permanently last summer on a three-year contract.
Cooper earned his first international call-up for the England U18s against Belgium in February 2013. He made his U20 debuts against Canada in the summer of 2016.
At 23, he boasts massive potential and could become one of Gerrard’s leading figures at the Light Blues backline. The former England captain has taken over the reigns from Graeme Murty at the Ibrox and has set off on an ambitious path of making squad improvements.
He has been tasked with returning Rangers to title-winning ways, especially to stop the dominance of their bitter rivals, Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. The Hoops are packed to the rafters with top-pedigree young talent and Gerrard has to match that if he is to place a serious threat for major honours next term.

Currently, he only employs Lee Wallace, Jon Flanagan and Declan John in the left-back position and Cooper would be a definite upgrade.
