Milad Mohammadi, a relatively unknown name before the Word Cup, shot into limelight when he took a last minute throw in against Spain. The fullback went for the spectacular but it ended as an epic fail. However, he did go on to give a good account of himself barring that throw in as he is being linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic.
The Hoops are set to be rivaled by their arch nemesis Rangers for his signature as Steven Gerrard looks to add yet another player in his roster. The 24-year-old currently plies his trade for Akhmat Grozny, a first tier team in the Russian league who finished ninth last term.
The player is ambidextrous so that allows him to play in either flank but generally he is used as a left back. Celtic can part ways with their influential left-back Kieran Tierney who has been linked with a move to various Premier League clubs and it might very well happen that Rodgers is looking for replacements in the transfer market.
Rodger had earlier said,” The kid has signed a long-term deal and you can see the happiness he has here. But there’s also a moral aspect to it, where if a player is on X amount of money and he’s offered five X by someone else and the club also has a big offer then it’s something that will be spoken about. Kieran, because of his age and his talent, is always going to be linked with other clubs. There will be suitors watching him. It is a short career and it’s only right that you’re mindful of that.”
The way the gaffer is speaking, he knows that the player has a big future ahead of him and it is likely that he won’t be at Celtic for long.
The 24-year-old Iranian is more of an attack-minded fullback, so he can play in a much more advanced role as well down the wings. Replacing Tierney’s attacking threat down the left will certainly be a big parameter for Rodgers while selecting his replacement and the Iranian international certainly has that ability to provide overlapping runs and good crosses down the flanks.
Mohammadi is set to enter the final year of his contract. It is expected that the Bhoys will have to shell out close to £2m to secure his services and with their rivals Rangers also in the mix to sign him, things can turn out interesting.

Replacing Tierney won’t be an easy feat as he has won Scotland’s PFA young player of the year three times in a row. He is equally good at defending and attacking. Losing him will be a big loss for Rodgers but the 21-year-old is destined for great things. Mohammadi has the attacking side to his game to cope up in the Scottish Premiership but it remains to be seen how he turns out defensively if he makes a move to Celtic Park.
