Tottenham Hotspur, for more than a couple of years now, have faltered late in their race for a trophy as Mauricio Pochettino enters yet another Premier League season, with nothing to show for the progress he has made at White Hart Lane.
Spurs have Champions League football to attract some of the finest stars in Europe, but the manager is happy to nurture young talent, building a squad for the future. However, it might be time for them to start buying proven talent, which will now be an issue for the youngsters at the club.
With more first team signings, academy products will have fewer and fewer chances to break into the first team and one such player, who wants to quit the club in search of game time is Marcus Edwards.
Tagged as ‘mini Messi’ by Pochettino, Edwards joined Tottenham Hotspur’s academy as a kid but broke into the senior side in the season before the last. He made his debut against Gillingham in the 2016-17 League Cup and was deemed to have a bright future at the club. But that game remains his only outing under Pochettino, as he was sent out on loan to Norwich City in the Championship last season.
However, he got just six minutes of action all campaign, before returning to Spurs at the end of the season. At just 19, Edwards has shown great versatility, and was the captain of the youth side at Spurs, before he was sent out to Carrow Road. He has great skill and balance with the ball at his feet and his technical ability to create and score goals make him that much more dangerous.
His contract with the club runs until 2020 but it is understood that he is on the verge of leaving the club once again this summer. With Pochettino looking to add established stars to his side, Edwards is not convinced of his future with the club.
Reports suggest that the player and the club will decide over his future in the upcoming days. He might even be available for a permanent move, but Spurs will look to insert buy-back and sell-on clauses, to make sure that they do not miss out on his signing if he turns into a star.

At the moment, he is far away from making a first team start for Spurs, so it makes sense for all parties to part ways this summer.
