Hull City have officially announced the signing of Jordy de Wijs from PSV Eindhoven for an undisclosed transfer fee. The 23-year-old made his way over to the KCOM Stadium on a three-year deal with an option to extend for another 12 months. He will follow the line behind Eric Lichaj, David Milinkovic and Reece Burke to become Nigel Adkins’ fourth signing of the 2018 summer window.

Speaking to the press after penning down the trade, Wijs said, “This is a big step for me and I’m happy to be a Hull City player. Playing in England has always been one of my ambitions and this is the right time for me to make this step. I am really excited to be here and I want to give everything for this team.”
Since saving themselves from an ugly relegation battle the last term, Hull are making all the necessary moves to improve upon their previous season woes. Stiffening up the defence should be a leading concern and Wijs is the perfect man to heap major responsibilities upon.
The centre-back impressed during his loan spell with Excelsior Rotterdam this past season, making 24 appearances and registering 2 goals. He was not getting much playing time in the PSV ranks with just 5 senior team appearances registered over the past 4 seasons. He was a regular in the U21 squad and has 23 games under his belt for the U19 side as well.
de Wijs made his professional debut for the club in the UEFA Champions League tie against Wolfsburg in 2015. He has represented the Netherlands at the youth level 9 times in total at various age categories.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, de Wijs is an athletic presence who is capable of providing cover from the wide areas as well. He is still young and has a lot of potential to succeed in the EFL Championship.

Adkins clearly wants to have a young core at the heart of his defence with Reece Burke also signed from West Ham United for £1.5m. Now, the Tigers have Ondrej Mazuch and Angus MacDonald in the position as well and the addition of the new man to their ranks will surely strengthen the side for the next term.
