Rangers are lining up a move for Akhmat Grozny left-back Milad Mohammadi this summer. According to recent reports, the Gers are hoping to secure the services of the Iranian international during the summer transfer period. It is understood that Steven Gerrard’s side are among a whole host of clubs looking to snap up the World Cup full-back ahead of the new season.
Some sources have recently claimed that the Teddy Bears could face stiff competition from the likes of Huddersfield Town, Stoke City and Dutch champions, PSV Eindhoven who have all enquired about signing the Iranian sensation in this post-season.
Mohammadi had featured in two matches for the Iranian national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but he couldn’t help his side secure a passage through to the knockout stages of the competition. However, his outstanding contributions last season and in the World Cup has not gone unnoticed by other clubs.
The 24-year-old had made 24 appearances for Akhmat Grozny last season and had one assist to his name in all competitions. He has also earned 21 international caps for the Iranian national team so far in his career. Mohammadi is exactly the kind of talent who can thrive under the guidance of Gerrard if given the opportunity to showcase his talents at the Ibrox Stadium.
The Gers of Glasgow had a bland campaign last term but the appointment of Gerrard as their new manager earlier this summer has raised the spirits of their loyal supporters. Gerrard will now need to make some quality acquisitions to his squad if his team are to close the gap to their crosstown rivals, Celtic, next term.
The addition of Mohammadi will definitely bolster Gerrard’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The Teddy Bears have some promising talents in their ranks such as James Tavernier and Jon Flanagan vying for a full-back berth in Gerrard’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Mohammadi will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Rangers squad.
