According to reports, last season’s Champions League finalists Liverpool are keen on the signing of Domagoj Vida. He is currently on international duty with Croatia where he has enhanced his reputation as a defender.
Liverpool have made a £15.9m offer for the 29-year-old but Vida’s current club Besiktas are looking at an asking price of £30.9m for their star man.
Domagoj Vida is a warrior on the field. The Croatian international is an imposing defender on the pitch and can be counted on to lead his team from the back when on the field. He oozes passion for whichever jersey he adorns and is never afraid to make a challenge and loves a hard clean tackle. He has all the attributes which would make him a hit with Liverpool fans around the world.
Vida is the defensive partner of Reds centre-back Dejan Lovren in the Croatian national team. So a move to The Merseyside club will only strengthen a back line that seems to have flaws in them. Liverpool will be challenging on all fronts next season so squad depth will be key if they are to attain silverware in two or more competitions.
However, Vida will not be expected to break into the starting 11 of the Reds. Defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip will be expected to retain their places in the team as the duo combine well at the heart of the defence and have a good understanding between each other.
Vida would be the third choice centreback if Liverpool were to be successful in his capture. His services would be counted on during the initial stages of their domestic cup campaigns, barring any major injury to key men Van Dijk and Matip.
Having represented his country over 60 times, Vida can be seen as a bit reckless on the field. His Besiktas team were left to suffer the consequences of his actions during their round of 16 clash with German champions Bayern Munich. It did not take more than 16 minutes for Vida to let his emotions flow as a last-ditch challenge on Robert Lewandowski lead to the referee flashing a red card for Vida.
Jurgen Klopp will have to work with Vida on this aspect to improve the player’s mentality as Liverpool do play a high-intensity style of football and remaining calm in defence is a no-brainer.

Vida is almost 30 years of age and does not have much time left as a professional footballer. A move to Liverpool will enable him to see out his remaining years at a top club and give him the chance to add more winners’ medals to his trophy cabinet.
