Fulham are ready to join the race to sign Celtic centre-back Dedryck Boyata this summer. According to recent reports, the Cottagers are looking to secure the services of the Belgian international during this summer transfer period.
Some sources are now claiming that the Premier League new boys are planning a big-money raid of the Hoops defender in this post-season. Boyata has been in terrific form for both club and country over the last few years. He has become an integral part of Rodgers’ backline and helped his side achieve a domestic treble last season.
The 27-year-old has also featured in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for the Belgium national side and has played in 3 matches for them so far in the competition. His contributions have helped his nation seal a passage through to the semi-finals of the World Cup where they will face off against France on Tuesday for a place in the final.
Boyata had featured in 39 matches for Celtic last season and has 3 goals and 3 assists to his name in all competitions. As evident from his stats, the defender has a knack for scoring and creating goals which will be an ideal asset for any of his potential suitors. With his contract set to run down next year, Boyata’s future at Celtic Park has been thrown into doubt with a number of clubs lining up for his signature.
The Bhoys had another productive campaign last term as they were able to achieve a domestic treble but their overall performance in the UEFA Champions League was a disappointing one, to say the least. Hence, Rodgers can’t afford to let go of their most valuable players as it will deplete his squad significantly going into the new campaign.
However, the Glaswegian giants could benefit from the money generated through his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad. The Hoops boss needs to devise a transfer plan and work accordingly. If the Parkhead-based club does end up parting ways with the Belgian defender, then they would also need to bring in an ideal replacement who will be capable enough to bolster their backline significantly.

Boyata should definitely look to stay at Celtic Park and opt against a switch to some other club in this post-season as he is already getting regular game time under Rodgers which he might not be guaranteed at Craven Cottage.
