Everton have decided to put an end to the preliminary discussions with Celtic over the possibility of signing their Scottish left-back Kieran Tieran this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are unwilling to match the Hoops’ demands and have ended their pursuit of the Scottish defender during this summer transfer period.
It is understood that the Bhoys are demanding a fee in the region of £25m, a figure which the Merseyside outfit are refusing to match as they feel that the asking price is way too steep for any deal to take place. Some sources are now claiming that Marco Silva’s side have decided to walk away from the negotiations for now. Only time will tell whether they decide to come back in with another offer in the near future.
The 21-year-old had put in some outstanding displays at the back for the Glaswegian giants during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. The Scottish sensation had featured in 55 matches under Brendan Rodgers last term, finding the back of the net 4 times while notching up an impressive tally of 11 assists across all competitions.
The Celtic youngster is exactly the kind of player who can thrive under the masterful guidance of Marco Silva at Goodison Park. He will be a great long-term replacement for the Toffees left-back Leighton Baines which is why Everton should go all out to seal a move for him this summer.
The Blues of Merseyside had to endure a difficult domestic campaign last season and could only manage to grind out an 8th placed finish in the English top tier. Marco Silva should now look to make some shrewd additions to his squad during this window in an effort to improve his team’s chances of keeping up with the big boys of the Premier League next term.
The potential acquisition of Tierney would have undoubtedly bolstered Silva’s defensive options at Goodison Park. Everton have some talented full-backs in their ranks which include the likes of Leighton Baines, Séamus Coleman, Cuco Martina and Jonjoe Kenny vying for a place in Silva’s starting XI. If the Portuguese manager can somehow manage to convince Tierney to make a switch to Merseyside this summer, it will definitely improve their defence significantly and add more competition for places within the Toffees squad.

The Douglas-born wonderkid is also quite versatile and primarily operates as a left-back but can also be unleashed on a more advanced role down the left wing or as a centre-back which makes him a perfect fit for the Merseyside club. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Tierney and whether Celtic can be persuaded to lower their asking price for the defender in the coming weeks.
