Manchester City have officially sent Erik Palmer-Brown out on loan to NAC Breda for the upcoming 2018/19 season. While a deal has been struck between the two sides, the 21-year-old is still due to receive his work permit. Speaking to the press about his confirmed switch, the centre-back said, “I am very happy that I am here and am looking forward to the season. Last year I watched a lot of matches from the Dutch Premier League. The style of play is good to me. I also heard a lot of good things about NAC. Players from the league that I know I have heard that the support of the fans is incredible.”
Palmer-Brown impressed this past season while also serving a loan spell with Belgian outfit, KV Kortrijk. He made 9 appearances for the Jupiler League side, registering 626 minutes of on-pitch action.
His exploits in West Flanders earned him the switch to the Pearl of the South, as expressed by Breda’s Technical Director, Hans Smulders. He was quoted, “The wings have been filled in and with Erik, we now have the desired reinforcement for the central defence. Erik is a player with speed and he is also strong in the one-on-one duels. He naturally has a drive forward and thanks to his good passes he can be an important link in the build-up of backwards. We are happy that he will come to Breda for a year. “
Palmer-Brown is a product of the United States Soccer Development Academy and later signed his first professional contract with Sporting Kansas City as a 16-year-old. In 2014, he made his debut in the Major League Soccer against Chicago Fire.
Halfway through the 2015/2016 season, Palmer-Brown was sent out on loan to FC Porto for further development. After making 17 appearances for the Portuguese side’s B team, he was sent out for a term with Swope Park Rangers.
City brought him out to the Etihad at the break of the year and immediately sent him out to Belgium. Palmer-Brown is also a 2-time United States international with 28 caps also registered to his name for the U17, U18 and U20 sides.
The 21-year-old is one of the modern-day ball-playing defenders who can link up plays from the back. With a lot of strength and character in the 6 feet 1-inch frame of his, Palmer-Brown could someday fit into the Citizens’ first-team squad.
