Marco Silva, the new boss at Everton, is deploying an aggressive approach in the transfer market this summer. Having taken over the club from Sam Allardyce, who was unable to stamp his authority at the club, the Portuguese tactician is looking to add players that suit his style of play at Goodison Park next season. This has seen the Toffees linked with a number of star players from around Europe and one such name now doing the rounds is Gian Marco Ferrari.
A relatively unknown name to the football world, Ferrari is an experienced defender, who started his senior career with Parma in his hometown in Italy. He has not represented his country at any level but has been a consistent player in the Serie A for quite a few years now.
He left Parma to join Gubbio, a Serie C outfit in 2013 but just a year later, returned to Stadio Ennio Tardini in 2014. However, he only managed to earn a name for himself after he joined Crotone, first on loan and then on a permanent basis, finally showing his quality at the highest level.
The 26-year-old joined Sassuolo in 2016 but spent the last season on loan at Sampdoria, where he made 29 league appearances, scoring a couple of goals, helping them to a place in the top half of the table.
An excellent passer, who is happy to sit back and soak up the pressure, the 26-year old is adept at throwing himself around in the box and is usually spot on with his interceptions. He is hard to beat in one-on-one situations and is also decent in the air. Ferrari does give away needless fouls at times but has the ability to put in match-winning performances, which has attracted the attention of Silva at Everton.
The Toffees spent on Michael Keane last summer, who could still be the first choice defender next season but neither Ashley Williams nor Phil Jagielka are long-term options, leaving the club in search of a central defender this summer.
Mason Holgate has done a decent job but the Toffees need an established player, who can stand strong against the toughest of opponents in the league. Reports suggest that Silva sees Ferrari as the right man to shore up his defence this summer. It is understood that the Italian club values him at around €10m, which should not be a problem for the English club. This price will also allow them to spend on another centre-back, adding more depth to the lineup.

He may not be the best option available in the transfer market at the moment, but at 26, he is yet to hit his peak and could turn out to be a superb signing for Everton.
