Swansea City starts their Championship campaign on the 4th of August and Graham Potter, the manager at the Liberty Stadium is determined to improve the quality of the squad this summer. This has seen the Swans be linked with some of the finest stars in Europe but one player they have now added to their roster is Jordi Govea.
A product of the academy at Real Madrid, Govea jumped from the youth team to the U18s in 2016 and was included in the U19 squad at Bernabeu just a year later, as he showed great progress and maturity beyond his age.
He spent the last campaign with the U19s, picking up a couple of assists in just the four games he played for the junior sides. He truly announced himself in the Spanish league but at 19, is hardly ready for first-team action.
The Ecuadorian is a left-back by trait, who loves to create chances in the final third. He is quick and skilfull, can test the best of defenders and is also strong in hold up play, all very important for a full-back.
The South American is not afraid to take on his man, can also test the keeper from long range and is a real asset in the attacking third. His discipline and understanding of the game make him effective at the back. He is at his best when his side are on top and could turn out to be a huge asset for the Swans.
His contract with the Spanish giants expired at the end of the previous month and Swansea City have taken no time to lure him to England. Govea will join the academy at Swansea and will follow Yan Dhanda, who only recently took a similar route to the club.
At just 19, Govea might not be a first-team option yet but Swansea City are in desperate need of a quality left-back at the moment and Govea fits the bill well. Though it has been reported that the former Real Madrid man will only join the U23 at the Liberty Stadium. Potter has Martin Olsson as the only left-back option in the senior squad, giving Govea a chance to break into the first team next season if he can impress the Swans boss.

The new manager might continue to use Kyle Naughton and Connor Roberts on the left-flank as backups for Olsson but Govea is a natural left-back and could take the Swede’s place in the first team in the years to come. He is a potential star and is a huge acquisition for the Welsh outfit.
