Burnley have been interested in signing West Bromwich Albion‘s duo of Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson. The Clarets reportedly made a bid of £25m for the duo, however, the Baggies have rejected it and are demanding £40m for them. Those demands have seemed to put off Burnley as they are expected to move on to sign other alternatives.
West Brom are demanding £20m for Craig Dawson itself and the Englishman can be considered as one of the most sellable assets which the club possess right now. Usually, after a drop to the Championship, a club lose their key players as they try to continue their progress in the top flight with other clubs. It seems likely that even Craig Dawson will part ways with them in the future.
Dawson had earlier handed in a transfer request. Apart from Burnley, West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion are also interested in signing the defender.
Dawson has been an integral player at the Hawthorns in the past few years and he is considered too good to play in the Championship. With Burnley playing in the Europa League, they will need extra depth in their squad to challenge for various titles and Sean Dyche had identified the Baggies duo as viable options. However, Dyche is not set to offer more than £30m for the two and he seems to be looking for other alternatives in the transfer market.
Dawson is a veteran of 153 games in the Premier League and the versatile defender will fit into quite a few teams in the top division. Traditionally, Dawson is a right back but he is equally adept at playing in the central defender’s role. He played 32 games for his side in all competitions last season as the Baggies finished rock bottom of the Premier League.
West Brom will be looking for a new start under Darren Moore who showed huge promise in the latter half of the last season, however, his real test will begin in the upcoming season as the Baggies will be expected to bounce back in the Premier League straight away.
