According to reports in German media outlet, fullback Marvin Plattenhardt is invoking a huge interest among various Premier League clubs and Huddersfield Town happens to be one of those who are linked with the 26-year-old. Plattenhardt was one of the surprise inclusion in Germany’s squad for the World Cup and he even managed to start the first game as regular left-back Jonas Hector was out due to illness. However, the Germans crashed out of the World Cup but that doesn’t seem to deter Huddersfield who are looking to sign him.
The Terriers have seen a miraculous rise in English football in the past few years and many didn’t give them a chance to survive in the Premier League. However, David Wagner’s side managed to pull off a coup as they survived by the skin of their teeth last season by finishing 16th.
The player has become an integral part of Hertha Berlin’s side in the past few years and has been a mainstay for his side down the left. He made 38 appearances in all competitions last term and managed a return of 8 assists.
Wagner will be aware that staying again in the Premier League will be a big ask and he will need to bring in reinforcements to his side.
The 27-year-old Scott Malone and Chris Lowe shared the left back duties at the club last season. Both of the defenders were solid for the most part but one can easily go on to make a conclusion that Plattenhardt will be an upgrade over those two. The World Cup star is known for his vicious left foot which makes him a dangerous proposition when he is attacking further up the pitch. He even shared set-piece duties for Germany against Mexico and Huddersfield will have a good set-piece taker if they manage to sign him.
However, with other clubs into the race to sign the German, it won’t be that straightforward for David Wagner to get his man. At 26, Plattenhardt should be in the prime of his career, though one can say that he can still go on to improve himself on the defensive front.

At Huddersfield, he will be tested more at the back and it will be interesting to see whether the player will be able to adapt himself to the challenges of the Premier League. But from the pieces of evidence which he has shown, he looks ready to take on the English football if handed a chance.
