Leicester City have reportedly joined in on the race for highly rated German fullback, Marvin Plattenhardt. The 26-year-old is being targeted by a bunch of Premier League sides and could very well be on the move from Hertha Berlin this very summer.
Plattenhardt is one of the best fullbacks in the Bundesliga who made the 23-man squad under Joachim Low for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The fullback was on display against Mexico in the first group stage match that Germany lost 1-0.
While Jonas Hector was serving a spell on the sidelines with an injury, Plattenhardt took to the left flank with a lot of enthusiasm. Unfortunately, Die Mannschaft could not get past the group stages of the international tournament and ended their campaign early after losing to Sweden.
Now, Plattenhardt is available for negotiations over a proposed move to the Premier League. He can travel in and out of the country to undergo medical examinations or get involved in contract talks. The 26-year-old is a product of the FC Nuremberg youth academy, where he made 66 appearances for the senior squad and 45 for the club’s B side. Hertha brought him over for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2014 on a three-year contract.
Since signing an extension, the current deal is set to run for another 5 seasons with the Bundesliga outfit which could end up driving his price up in the transfer window. Plattenhardt is one of the modern day full backs who has the technical abilities and the passing sense to be equally impactful on the offensive side of the pitch.
He has a solid left foot which he uses to dispatch lethal freekicks. His winning goal against Borussia Dortmund on 21st March 2017, marked his 7th in competitive league fixtures, all of them registered through freekicks.
With Claude Puel keeping his place as the Foxes head coach, Leicester City are looking to make the right changes for an even better 2018/19 season. FC Koln has gone down to the Bundesliga 2 which could eventually hurt Jonas Hector’s chances for international selection. Making the switch to the Premier League could help Plattenhardt snatch up the starting berth of the Germany national team in the near future.

However, is he really a necessity for the Foxes at this point of the summer window? Leicester City already have a rising young fullback in Ben Chilwell who had shown a lot of promise in the last season. Although with Christian Fuchs hitting 32 this year, maybe they should be planning for a long-term investment and the German fullback can be a good option.
