Reports are emerging over West Brom’s rising interest in former Ipswich Town striker, David McGoldrick. The forward has run out of contract with the Tractor Boys and is being sought out by a number of English outfits. The Baggies will require more attacking options for their upcoming Championship season, especially if Salomon Rondon quits the Hawthorns this summer, the 30-year-old could be an immediate answer.
McGoldrick has a solid goal-scoring record in the English top divisions, registering 8 goals in 24 appearances for Ipswich last season. He also set up 5 assists to showcase his talents on the offensive end of the pitch.
He started out in the Notts County youth ranks before making a switch to Southampton for an undisclosed fee in August 2004. He returned back to the Magpies on a one-month loan in September 2005 to gain more first-team experience.
The centre-forward made a remarkable return to the St Mary’s, scoring 44 goals for their Reserve team and the U18 side while also helping the club progress to the finals of the FA Youth Cup. He was subsequently loaned out to Bournemouth and then Port Vale, scoring twice in 17 games for the latter in League One.
The Irishman broke into the scene in the 2008/09 season, scoring 12 goals in 46 appearances but unfortunately could not save his side from relegation. He was subsequently sold off to Nottingham Forest for a reported £1m fee.
He struggled to find his shooting boots with the Foresters and managed only 3 goals in 33 games in his debut season. The talented forward spent a short loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday and later with Coventry City. The 30-year-old really came into his own with the Sky Blues, scoring on 16 occasions in 22 matches.
Ipswich Town picked him up in January 2013 and so far has been rewarded with 45 goals and 25 assists in total from over 150 appearances. He is a versatile presence with a lot of skill and pace under his boots.

Even if he fails to deliver with goals, the striker looks to contribute through hard-work for his side. The former Bournemouth captain, Steve Fletcher heaped praise over the Englishman and said, “Dave’s a great outlet for the team. He’s got pace, he can get in behind defenders and can run all day. He’s skilful and he’s got all the attributes. Dave’s been a revelation for us in the past few weeks and certainly played his part in helping us pick up a few crucial wins.”
