Salomon Rondon is a powerful figure who can lead his team’s attack from the front. Holding up play with his physicality is a trait most commonly seen in the English game and he would be an asset for any team he plays for.
Newcastle United are said to be interested in his services, and rightfully so. Coach Rafael Benitez is an admirer of the big and powerful Venezuela forward. Hoping to break their own spending fee record and sign the West Brom striker who can be purchased on the cheap due to a release clause in his contract. The proposed value stands at £16.5m.
Newcastle United’s only recognizable striker at the time is Aleksandar Mitrovic, who spent the remainder of the last season on loan at Fulham FC, making the switch in January. Salomon Rondon would be a like for like replacement if Mitrovic were to depart from Craven Cottage.
Using his strength to good effect, Rondon can hold up play well, which allows the second striker or attacking midfielder to come into play. He links up well with his teammates who play behind him, bringing them to the fore and causing the necessary damage to the opposition.
Scoring 24 goals in over 108 appearances for the Baggies, Rondon failed to live up to the general expectations of many. He was in fine form during the 2014-2015 season for Russian powerhouse Zenit Saint Petersburg grabbing 20 goals in 37 appearances.
West Brom will take no part in the upcoming Premier League campaign as they slumped to the bottom of the table and thus, faced relegation to the EFL Championship in the last campaign. Rondon would be wise to push for a move away from the club as a player of his calibre would be better off suited in a top division side. Hence, making a move to Newcastle United can be viewed as a smart decision.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, did no favours to themselves in the last season as they managed to get a goal tally of 39 goals whilst conceding 47 at the other end. A proven goal scorer is required if they want to better themselves and fight for a Europa League spot next term. Last time around their top scorer was Ayoze Perez, who scored 8 goals.
