Rangers might have completed the signing of two centre-backs in Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, however, they are looking to bring in further options at the back. They are currently being linked with Millwall’s star centre-back Jake Cooper. The defender has been the backbone of his side in defence and had appeared in 42 games in all competitions for his side last season.
The Gers are looking to target him as they are set to lose their veteran defender Bruno Alves who is likely to move to Italian outfit Parma. Alves is way past his prime and it is probably a good move by the Gers to part ways with the Portuguese international.
Cooper is just 23 and led his backline to great effect in the last campaign as Millwall came perilously close to qualifying for the playoffs. They were promoted to the Championship as they defeated Bradford in League One playoff finals in the 2016-17 season. That goes to show what a miraculous rise the Lions have been through as they fell just three points short of finishing sixth in the Championship in the 2017-18 season.
The 6ft 5 inches defender has represented England at various youth levels and looks to be a good prospect at this point in time of his career. It is believed that the Teddy Bears are set to offer Millwall a bid somewhere around £1m for the 23-year-old defender. However, it seems likely that the Lions will not let their star defender go for such a cheap amount.
There is no doubt that Gerrard will be concerned about the Gers’ leaky defence in the upcoming season. They had the worst defensive record of any of the top seven sides and even though they scored the most number of goals in the Scottish Premiership, it eventually came to nothing as Celtic won the title with relative ease in the end.
It will be interesting to see whether Gerrard will be able to lure the youngster to the Ibrox Stadium. Millwall will again be pushing for qualification to the Premier League and based on the pieces of evidence from last season, they certainly don’t look too far behind in that race.

Cooper will definitely add more competition for places at the Ibrox Stadium. The new manager will have a decision to make on who to start at the back if they want to go on to sign the English defender. However, they need to come up with a better offer first as Millwall are not going to let him leave for somewhere around the £1m mark.
