The summer transfer window at Stamford Bridge this year is off to a patchy start. Chelsea are desperate to hand over Antonio Conte’s role to Maurizio Sarri but are yet to make this move official. This has certainly affected their chances in the transfer market, leaving the club without a single addition to their squad so far this summer.
It will also be difficult to sort the futures of a number of players unsettled at the club now and one such player, who is now wanted in Turkey is Kurt Zouma.
Born and brought up in Lyon, Zouma started his senior career with Saint-Etienne, where he spent three seasons, turning into a star for the French giants. He was picked up by Chelsea in 2014 and was used 14 times in the league in his debut campaign in England.
He made a decent impact on the squad in his second season at the club, making 23 league appearances but was not in Antonio Conte’s plans, who gave Zouma just nine league games in the season he helped them win the league. He was completely out of the squad last season and was sent to Stoke City on loan in order to get regular game time.
The French ace put in some decent performances for the Potters, standing as one of the first names on the team sheet, playing 37 games in all competitions. He showed decent strength and confidence against the best attackers in the league and was one of the most consistent players for Stoke.
However, he failed to keep them safe in the English top flight, as Stoke City were relegated, but his stint at the bet365 Stadium has certainly given him a lot of experience to bank upon. At just 23, he already has 154 Premier League appearances and has shown enough to compete in the English top tier.
The Blues have David Luiz and Gary Cahill, who will struggle to get into the Chelsea first team next season. Cesar Azpilicueta, one of Chelsea’s best defenders, will play at right-back in a four-man backline, leaving Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as the only options for the centre-backs roles.
So there is an urgent need of more than one central defenders at Stamford Bridge and there is no reason why Zouma cannot fill this void. The French youngster, who has two caps for the national side, is not devoid of weaknesses but has the potential to be one of the best in the league and certainly deserves a chance.

Reports suggest that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are ready to make an offer to take him on loan but the Blues are better off keeping him in their squad as he can help them compete on all four fronts next season.
