The ridiculous ease with which Manchester City walked their way to the Premier League title last season is a wakeup call to the best in the country. Pep Guardiola’s system, with a set of players getting the best out of it, saw records tumble constantly in the English top flight and with the Spaniard looking to add quality to an already star-studded lineup, will certainly make them harder to catch.
There are very few players available in the transfer market who can improve this squad at the Etihad. So City are looking at particular stars who can improve certain areas in their squad that were the weak links last season. One such player they are desperate to land is Jorginho.
A player relatively unknown to the football world a few years ago, Jorginho started his career with Italian outfit, Verona, making a name for himself as a technically astute midfielder. He spent four seasons at the club, taking them from Serie B to Serie A but spent just a season with them in the top flight, before being picked up by Napoli.
He made just 19 outings in all competitions in his first season at the club but slowly started to impress his manager and thus, establishing himself in the first team. He was one of the first names on the team sheet for Maurizio Sarri last season and was crucial in the Italian’s system which worked to near perfection.
However, he has shown so much promise that he has attracted interest from some of the finest clubs in Europe. Liverpool were reportedly in pole position to land him earlier in the summer but Manchester City have been long-term admirers and are now closing in on a move.
The Italian giants are set to sign Fabian Ruiz as a replacement for Jorginho, which will allow him to join Manchester City this summer. A few details of the deal are yet to be agreed upon by all parties but it is now reported that Pep Guardiola hopes to sign the midfielder in time for his first pre-season training session scheduled on Monday.
At 26, Jorginho is an established midfielder in Europe and will probably be picked ahead of Fernandinho next season. It is understood that City will pay £43m initially for his services, and at that price, the Brazil-born star is an absolute steal.

He is technically one of the best in the field and can dictate play in the middle of the park. He is an actual upgrade on Fernandinho and will make City even stronger.
