Jurgen Klopp has done a pretty astonishing job, taking Liverpool close to their previous best in his three years at the club. The German tactician narrowly missed out on the Champions League trophy last season but will be desperate to have a shot yet again in the upcoming campaign.
He has already added two new faces to his squad from the previous season but has a few roles in the side that he needs to upgrade on. While he is busy in search of a shot-stopper, Liverpool are also in need of a central defender, who is ready for first team action next season. This has seen them be linked with a wide range of stars from around Europe but one player now wanted by the Reds is Yerry Mina.
A product of the academy at Deportivo Pasto, a club in Colombia, the 23-year old spent impressive stints in Brazil with Santa Fe and Palmeiras before joining Barcelona earlier this year in January. He was scouted by the Catalans for a while before they managed to land him but Mina is yet to make an impact on Ernesto Valverde’s squad, playing just six games in all competitions.
The La Liga giants are also looking to add Clement Lenglet to their lineup this summer, leaving Mina down the pecking order. Moreover, Mina also eats up a non-EU space in the squad at the Camp Nou, so it does not come as a surprise that he is already being linked with an exit from Catalunya.
A strong and dominating presence at both ends of the field, Mina is an athletic centre-back, who wins everything thrown at him in the air. He has an aggressive approach to the game, that frustrates even the best of strikers in Europe. He is also calm and confident with the ball at his feet and is happy to hold on to it under pressure.
He is technically astute, has no real weaknesses and is a star in the making. At just 23, he has already gathered a lot of experience and his equalizer against England in the quarterfinals of the World Cup earlier this week will now turn him into a household name.
Reports suggest that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are hot on the heels of the defender but it is now understood that Liverpool have joined the race for his signature. He is only available on loan and will certainly attract more clubs this summer, but he could turn out to be a huge asset for Liverpool.
The Reds may yet stick with Dejan Lovren at the back, with the Croatian finding consistency late last season. Virgil van Dijk will remain a first team name but both Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan has not shown enough promise so far and this could see Mina being preferred over the last two names in the pecking order for Klopp.

He is young and eccentric, fits into Klopp’s system at Anfield pretty well and is perfect for the English game. So taking him on loan is a no-brainer for the German tactician this summer.
