According to latest reports, Newcastle United are currently in the lead to sign Juventus midfielder, Stefano Sturaro. When asked about the interests from other clubs, the player’s agent Carlo Volpi said, “Not just Newcastle are in for him, but other clubs as well.”
“Who? Ah, you know, for sure, Wolverhampton and Southampton have had a little thought about him too.”
Sturaro has been at the very centre of transfer speculations for quite some time now and he could very well be on the move to a different club this summer. Juventus are looking to bag around £18m from his sale in order to reinvest in other signings.
Prior reports also claimed that the Magpies had a £12m bid rejected by the Italian outfit. Rafael Benitez is looking to bring the 25-year-old to Tyneside in order to further his team’s cause in the upcoming season.
United are already preparing themselves to be without Mikel Merino in the coming season and for now, the number ten position remains vacant with just a few weeks left in the current transfer window. Benitez will have to deepen the club ranks in order to improve in the Premier League next term.
The 10th place finish in the 2017/18 season was nothing short of a miracle from the Spanish boss but it might be hard to replicate without all the key figures in place. Sturaro is a very underrated talent in the Serie A who could easily carve out a prominent role at St James’ Park.
He has fallen out-of-favour with Massimiliano Allegri and only got to feature in 983 minutes of club action last season, appearing in just 19 games. At 25, the Italian still has ample time to shift his career trajectory and make a real case for international selection.
With 4 caps to his name for Italy, Sturaro has so far struggled to fulfil his potential in European football. Benitez can change all that by handing him an important position at the club.
The Genoa academy product is highly skilled and has the creative bone to make the offence tick. He can be the missing piece in Benitez’s defensive system next to the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame.
The Toon Army will be overjoyed to see the highly rated central midfielder fill up the club ranks for the 2018/19 season.

With three years still left in his contract, it is understandable that Juventus will charge a hefty sum but Benitez should not hold back on making a convincing offer.
