Leeds United are weighing up a move for Garena Young Lions defender Irfan Fandi this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are interested in securing the signature of the Singaporean international during this summer transfer period. It is understood that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keeping a close eye on the development of Fandi, who has already had a trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this year.
The 20-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to Elland Road following a trial with Dutch Eredivisie side Groningen back in March. Since then, the Singaporean wonderkid had a short spell in the West Midlands after stating that he met with Nuno Espirito Santo and Jorge Mendes of Wolves.
Some sources are now claiming that Fandy could earn a move to Leeds after his brother Ikhsan, who was also reported to be on trial at Wolves, posted an update on Instagram recently. Both brothers have represented Singapore at the international stage.

In a recent interview, Fandi shed some light on his meeting with Wolves and was quoted to have said,
“They just asked me to prepare well mentally and physically.
“I have about two weeks before I go so, during this time, I’ll be going for more gym sessions and getting myself focused before I leave.
“The players overseas are a lot better technically, mentally and physically.
“They have a very strong will and a passion for football. They base their life on football and they would do anything in training.
“After I came back (from Groningen), I tried to tell the boys how it is like there, so they can learn to give their best in training. In Singapore, the situation is hard because of school and stuff.
“Overseas, they have school too, so it’s not an excuse not to work hard.”
The Peacocks are in need of some fresh faces in this ongoing transfer period if they are to compete on all fronts and challenge for a top 6 place in the English Championship. The addition of Fandi will undoubtedly bolster Bielsa’s defensive options at Elland Road.
Leeds have some solid centre-backs in their ranks such as Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling and Paudie O’Connor who are all vying for a place in Bielsa’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Fandi will definitely improve their team and add some more competition for places within the Peacocks squad.

At 20, the Singaporean talent has his peak years ahead of him which the West Yorkshire outfit could look to utilise in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Fandi and whether he ends up sealing a move to English football before the start of the new season.
