Brendan Rodgers has only managed to further assert Celtic’s domination over the Scottish Premiership. However, next season, he has a competitor in Steven Gerrard, who is in charge of their arch-rivals Rangers. So the former Liverpool manager is desperate to add some quality to his side, to make sure that they don’t give the Gers a sniff at the title.
This has seen Celtic being linked with a number of exciting stars for a move this summer and one player they are in talks to sign is John McGinn.
A product of the academy at St Mirren, McGinn was born and brought up in Glasgow and is now one of the most consistent players in the league in Scotland. He spent three seasons in Paisley, announcing himself to the league, and soon earned a move to Hibernian, where he turned into a first-team star in no time.
He had made 36 league appearances in the Scottish top flight in his debut campaign with the Hibs and showed great progress last season, registering six goals and eight assists in all competitions.
A versatile midfielder, who can play in an attacking or a defensive role, or even as a wing-back, the 23-year old is a gifted player, who can be a match-winner on his day. He is calm and composed on the ball, is happy to dictate the tempo of the game and is capable of producing magical moments in the final third on a consistent basis.
McGinn is also equally adept at dropping deep to make tackles and interceptions in dangerous areas, frustrating his opponents. At his age, he has shown great maturity and already has nine appearances for the national side. He has previous experience in the league and with just a year left in his contract, he will be tempted to move to Celtic Park this summer.
It is understood that Neil Lennon, the Hibernian boss, has slapped a price tag of £5m on McGinn for this summer. The likes of Rangers, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest have all shown an interest in his signature but the Scottish champions certainly lead the race for his signature.

Reportedly, Celtic have had a bid of £1.5m rejected by Hibs recently but Rodgers is expected to come up with a better offer in the upcoming days. His versatility and his potential make him an absolute steal for Celtic so they should do what it takes to land him, even if they have to meet his asking price.
