Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has officially handed in a transfer request amidst speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal this summer. According to recent reports, the French midfielder has informed the Spanish club that he wants to part ways with them during this summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old has been linked with the Gunners for a long time and could now be set to make a switch to North London and reunite with his former boss Unai Emery. The French talent had been outstanding for the La Liga outfit since joining them from Stoke City in the summer of 2015. He is a part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has featured in two World Cup matches for the French national team so far.
Nzonzi also has a wealth of experience in English football from his time at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City which indicates that he won’t take much time to adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of the English top-flight.
The French midfield ace had made 44 appearances for Sevilla last season, scoring one goal while grabbing two assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of talent who can thrive under the expert guidance of Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium.
The London giants had a mediocre season last term when they failed to qualify for the Champions League after only managing to claim a 6th placed finish in the league table. The new Gunners boss Unai Emery is now hoping to make some smart acquisitions to his squad so that they are well-equipped to compete on all fronts in the upcoming campaign.
The potential acquisition of Nzonzi will definitely bolster Emery’s midfield options ahead of the new season. Arsenal have a lot of classy midfield talents such as Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny vying for a place in Emery’s first-team. The addition of Nzonzi will add more competition for places within the Gunners squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.
