Standing tall at 6 feet 3 inches, Tammy Abraham is an imposing figure on the pitch. He has the pace to beat defenders during a sprint which helps him effectively breach the opposition’s defence. His tricky feet, strength in the air and a good long-range shot are the strengths he possesses at the tender age of 20.
However, the lack of first team football at Chelsea has seen the young Englishman get loaned out in order to establish himself as a reliable and recognized striker. He was outstanding during his loan spell at Bristol City, netting in 26 goals in 41 appearances, leading the Robins to safety as they secured a 17th position finish at the end of their domestic campaign. His hard work did not go unnoticed as he racked up Bristol city’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Top Goal Scorer accolades.
Chelsea were impressed with what they had seen from their academy star and decided to see if he could test his mettle in the Premier League. A loan move to Swansea City followed. This was perhaps a step too far for Abraham to reach, and his form for the Swans failed to live up to the general expectations of the Chelsea hierarchy.
5 goals in 31 appearances were deemed not worthy enough to be given a chance at Chelsea and now, the youngster is once again being linked to make a loan move away from his boyhood club, this time with Derby County, and a reunion with Chelsea legend and current Rams manager Frank Lampard.
Lampard is well aware of the ability Tammy possesses and it is understandable why Abraham is now linked with a season-long loan to Derby. Perhaps Frank can get the best out of the youngster, and help cater to his overall development. If Lampard can get Tammy ticking again, success will not be out of grasp.
In all fairness, Lampard would put his trust in the youngster and perhaps get him believing once again that his talent is there for all to appreciate. There would be no reason to doubt that Abraham could have another successful and enlightening campaign under his belt.
Frank Lampard has achieved a lot during his time as a top professional but a managerial role is new waters for the Chelsea legend to explore. A sharp and ruthless Tammy Abraham would only strengthen Lampard’s chances of enhancing his reputation as a football manager.
