Jurgen Klopp has certainly established Liverpool as a club to look out for in the European competitions, taking his side to the Champions League final last season. However, the German is still not completely happy with the options at his disposal and continues to be linked with a wide variety of stars.
One such player, they are now extensively linked with is Heung Min-Son.
Born and brought up in Korea, Son started his senior career in Germany with Hamburger SV, where he spent three impressive seasons before joining Bayer Leverkusen. At the Bay Arena, he truly established himself as a star on the highest platform, scoring 21 Bundesliga goals in 62 appearances across two seasons.
He was soon snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 and has ever since been a regular for Mauricio Pochettino’s men in London. Son got off to a slow start in the Premier League but scored 14 league goals in the 2016/17 season. He backed it up last season, registering 18 goals and six assists in all competitions.
He scored the goal that knocked Germany out of the World Cup in Russia recently and has certainly made himself a household name. A winger by trait, Son is a natural finisher, who loves to take on his opponents on the wing. He is hard to mark in one-on-one situations as he is technically gifted and can dribble past players with ease.
He finds pockets of space in and around the box and is ready to unleash a shot or create chances for his side on a regular basis. As a winger, he has not been the best in the league but for Pochettino, Son’s versatility is what makes him a first-team star.
The Korean ace can also play as a false-9 and has been a better backup to Harry Kane than the likes of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente, two strikers Pochettino brought to the club in the last couple of seasons.
It is his versatility that will attract Klopp. The Reds have Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as wingers while Roberto Firmino plays up top. Son can play in any of those roles and his energy on the field fits into Klopp’s system pretty well.
He is a utility player, solving many problems at Anfield and reports suggest that Liverpool are now leading the race for his signature. Son will not be available till mid-September, as he is busy with national duty in the Asian games.

If he fails to win that competition, he will have to serve for his country’s Military, as is the rule in his home country. His European future is in doubt, which is the only issue in this deal for Liverpool. However at 25, he has a prolific career ahead of him and will be a huge asset for the Reds.
