Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Everton in the race for Celtic fullback, Kieran Tierney. While the Toffees are lining up a £25m bid for the Scottish international, Mauricio Pochettino is strongly considering bringing the 21-year-old to White Hart Lane.
Tierney has grown up as a die-hard fan of the Hoops and is currently living his dream, having extended his contract until the summer of 2023. He passed out of the Celtic youth ranks with flying colours and is now one of the cemented starters in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
The Glasgow-based outfit registered their second consecutive domestic treble last term and Tierney was instrumental in the team’s recent success. The youngster has not only fulfilled his duties as a defensive option, he has also contributed with 4 goals and 11 assists in 52 total appearances last season.
Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on the 21-year-old time and time again. Even after Tierney’s error in the preseason game against Bohemians which cost Celtic the game, the Hoops head coach did not hold back on backing up the youngster. Addressing the situation, Rodgers said, “He is very committed and nothing changes. He is a good boy and I had a long chat with him just about keeping his focus really. These things you can’t control.”
Tierney is certainly a player whose talent precedes the current situation he is in. His abilities with the ball are second to none and his footballing maturity is well beyond his years. There is no telling what the Scottish youngster could achieve if he makes the move to the Premier League.
He is as technically adept as midfielders go these days and have the vision to slot accurate passes. He also has a high work ethic and remains disciplined with his position. Just like any other modern-day fullback, straying forward to provide width is almost second nature to him.
Tierney has the potential to break massive strides in the Premier League if given the opportunity to shine. However, is Tottenham the right club for him at this very instance? Depends on Danny Rose’s future with Spurs.
After a troubling season with injuries and getting dropped to the second string role behind Ben Davies, Rose came out to state his recent battle with depression. The Englishman was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but the transfer went bust when Jose Mourinho prioritized all his resources to get Alexis Sanchez.

Maybe his predicted departure this summer is reason enough to go after Tierney. However, Celtic are well aware of the value that Tierney bears in their side and it will be difficult for any club from the Premier League including Tottenham, to convince Rodgers to part ways with his prized asset in the near future.
